Social Web Week CT - Reflecting On An Amazing Week #swct

Looking back on this WTNH news piece the #getitdone crew did with Chris Velardi, it's hard to believe what has transpired in the last week! 30 sessions in 7 days. Bringing hundreds of people together. I was lucky to be at the anchor events each night and I was repeatedly blown away by the amazing people I met, the great conversations and idea sharing that happened. We all have a common goal of wanting to make the world a better place starting right in our back yard.

As I said in my interview: "The whole is greater than the sum of it's parts." has really proven itself to be true. Social Web Week has transformed energy into action and changed virtual to reality.

This will live on beyond GoogleHaven, Social Web Week & Podcamp CT. The connections we have made have made us all better because of it.

Tonight is the 30th event. A time to look back and celebrate what we have accomplished and to look forward to the next journey on our evolving path.

Join us.

Qik video of Social Web Week Kickoff #swct

OUR Social Web - Social Web Week 2010 #swct

I wanted to post an Email that Andre Yap from Www.ripple100.com sent the Social Web Week Group this morning. He sums up my thoughts exactly. I am so excited that the #getitdone crew has been able to harness the energy that was formed from the GoogleHaven movement to make this world a better place. I have been blessed to meet each and every one of you.

"Many of us have known each other from the GoogleHaven days, and as we said then, the process is its own reward.

Social Web Week CT is proof of that. Look at how much we can look forward to in OUR SOCIAL WEB. When it comes to us, I have stopped using THE, and instead refer to it as OUR social web - our connections, our conversations, our collaborations, our community, all the mighty things we're getting done in days that would have taken years. It's clear to me now that social media and technologies are only as good as what we, the community, do with them.

So, big congratulations to all of us for being part of this, Our Social Web Week CT.". - Andre Yap @andreayap

GoogleHaven Story on WTNH

Check out the great story Chris Velardi put together on our grass roots campaign!

Lots going on and many residents and local businesses stepping up to lend a hand. We have on-line videos being developed, street teams hanging ...fliers in neighborhoods, major media coverage in both TV and print media. And all the hard work of the #GoogleHaven committee to get the word out to local businesses and organizations.

We are almost at the 400-mark on our facebook group and DOUBLED our sign-ups through highspeednewhaven.com in one day! The message is getting out and people are engaged and excited.

I love it. Keep it up, we have less then two weeks to show Google how important this is to us.

We Want New Haven to be a Google Haven

Andre Yap's post this morning is a fantastic summary of what the #GoogleHaven Committee's focus will be over the next two weeks. We are using a 'no gimmicks' direct approach that will show Google why they should pick New Haven for the Google Fiber Project.

Here is our plan:
  1. Focus on getting a representative for business and community organizations to fill out the long form (https://www.google.com/appserve/fiberrfi/user/launch_exhibit_b) through targeted direct outreach over the next few weeks.
  2. Drive the rest of the community to the short form at www.highspeednewhaven.com

This will allow the arts, education, technology, nonprofit and business organizations to vote on behalf of their group and include more detail that will help our case with Google while at the same time allowing a simple way for the general public to sign up and show their support through the short form on highspeednewhaven.com. This URL is also easy enough to remember as you talk it up around town.

How can you help?

How to Hide FarmVille, Mafia Wars and Any Other Application In Facebook

FarmVille and Mafia Wars are HUGELY popular on Facebook. It seems that half of my friends are literally addicted! I was finding that their updates in my live news feed was getting pretty overwhelming so I found an easy way to get rid of them.

Here are the steps:
1. Mouse over the posting that you no longer want to see
2. Click the 'Hide' link in the upper right hand corner
3. When the menu comes up click the center button to hide.
4. Enjoy a cleaner Facebook news feed :)

I put together a quick screen cast to show the steps above in action:

Bring Google Fiber To New Haven - www.highspeednewhaven.com

Today's New Haven Register has a great article on how Google is looking for a city to install ultra-high-speed gigabit internet.
Communities around the US are competing to get Google's attention.
It would be FANTASTIC if New Haven was chosen!

How can you help???

1. Join the Facebook group
2. Follow the SeeClickFix Case
3. Sign up on the City's Google Fiber site (going live Monday March 8th) Live!
4. Sign the Google Community Interest form
5. Most importantly - Spread the word! Tell your friends. Talk it up at work. Tweet it up!

www.highspeednewhaven.com has been set up to be a clearing house of information to bring New Haven together. The application is due 3/26/2010 so we only have a few weeks to rally the community. We can do this!
